Must See Photos: Ann Arbor’s 2017 Hash Bash

Last weekend, Ann Arbor’s annual Hash Bash took place, and photographer Amy Cooper was on hand to document the entire stony affair.

Hash Bash is so unique, especially in Michigan, where we’re still struggling with legalization. Though many people can get what they need through dispensaries, it’s a once-a-year event where habitual smokers can get together with people who medicate for aliments and swap stories on how it changed their lives for the better.

Hash Bash is also a great place to explore creativity and meet people who just want to be surrounded with others like them. You see many people getting outside their comfort zones and vibing with each other, whether it be smoking, dancing, hooping or just listening to music.

The event also opens up many different vendors to a crowd they’d otherwise not make contact with unless they were sought out. Companies like Ooze, which sells pens, to local artists and hydroponic representatives who can talk with their client base face-to-face and make a connection.

Overall, when I’m at Hash Bash, I see unity. People open up to each other, spread love for a day. With music, marijuana and a place to be free and accepted, it’s the one day a year where everyone can just “be” with each other and other people who partake in the herb.
