Cannabis-focused creative agency Puff Digital announced this week that it is releasing The Hollywood Sessions, a new season of its podcast “Into The Weeds.” The new episodes are a follow-up to last year’s debut season of the show, The Venice Sessions, which featured guests including Sen Dog of Cypress Hill and Beastie Boys collaborator Money Mark.

The new Hollywood Sessions also feature a lineup of big names in the cannabis world, including pot icon Tommy Chong, NBA All-Star Al Harrington, Mellow Man Ace, Greg Hetson of Bad Religion, Jon Cappetta, the vice president of content at High Times, and Ashlee Evans Smith of the UFC.

Destigmatizing Cannabis

Puff Digital said in a press release on Tuesday that the first season of “Into The Weeds,” featuring eclectic guests sharing their stories in an effort to destigmatize cannabis, attracted curious listeners and built a loyal following. The agency describes the podcast’s stylistic approach and lack of images of cannabis consumption as “elevated cannabis content” that attempts to tell relatable stories of guests’ initial experience with cannabis in an extended interview format.

The show was created last year by Ben Rispin, a Canadian musician and the creative director at Puff Digital, L.A. punk frontman Efrem Martinez Shulz of Death by Stereo and the Voodoo Glow Skulls, and cannabis industry expert Bubba Nicholson. The second season will have a new feel, however, due to Nicholson being forced to leave the show early in production due to a recurring back injury. Nicholson decided to focus on cannabis after suffering from opioid withdrawal following back surgery in 2017.

“It was heartbreaking watching Bubbs leave only two days into the session,” said Rispin. “His contributions will definitely be missed over the weeks to come. Bubbs has a big heart and it often shines through from episode to episode.”

Rispin said that the format of the show allowed he and Shulz to quickly adapt to Nicholson’s absence.

“Thankfully, our show is guest focused, so Efrem and I pulled off the Hollywood Sessions with just a bit of getting used to,” he said. “We found a rhythm, but Bubbs will be back in the fall. Bubbs is one of the toughest dudes I know. He’s focusing on getting healthy.”

New Cannabis Cooking Show Also Launching

Nicholson’s fans don’t have to fret, however. He can also now be found on a new production from Puff Digital and Up Cannabis entitled “Eat Up,” a cannabis-infused cooking television show hosted by Toronto chef Chris Brown. The pilot episode of “Eat Up” features hip-hop artist Michie Mee, Walk Off The Earth’s Gianni Luminatti, and street performer TK Entertainer. The program is available to stream exclusively on a new subscription-based media platform with a cannabis theme, The UPside.

New episodes of “Into The Weeds” are released on popular streaming platforms every Monday morning and are also available online.
