Angelina Dumps Brad—And Blames Pot!

The media went nuts Tuesday as word came that movie star Angelina Jolie had decided to divorce movie star Brad Pitt. The pair—dubbed “Brangelina”—had been tabloid sensations for years.

But only some outlets gave readers an intriguing part of the story.

TMZ broke the news, in its own distinctive, grammatically challenged way:

Sources connected with the couple tell us … Angelina’s decision to file has to do with the way Brad was parenting the children … she was extremely upset with his methods.

Our sources say, Angelina became “fed up” with Brad’s consumption of weed and possibly alcohol, and mixed with what she believes is “an anger problem” … felt it became dangerous for the children.

And Vulture.com, the online site of New York magazine, went further, running a story about Pitt’s supposed “battle” with the evil weed:

Pitt appears on Real Time With Bill Maher, where the host reminisces about the time Pitt spent an entire party sitting on the floor rolling joints. “You rolled these perfect joints,” Maher says. “The most perfect joint I have ever seen. Like a machine … It was better than a cigarette.” Pitt accepts the compliments with a chuckle, admitting, “I’m an artist.” Still, he swears he gave up marijuana when he had kids: “I’m a dad now. You want to be alert.”

The New York Times, however, in its lengthy account of the couple’s relationship, mentioned weed not at all.

Alternet in the end had the most coherent take:

… [I]f the reports are true, it looks like Pitt’s pot-smoking days reemerged as of late. Though, let’s be honest here: There are way worse things a celebrity could do than sit on a couch with a joint. Here’s hoping Pitt and Jolie are able to work out a mellow separation in the spirit of low-key stoners everywhere.
