By now, you may already know that High Times is hosting the inaugural Oregon Cannabis Cup. What you may not know, however, is that one of Oregon’s original licensed dispensaries is also behind the groundbreaking, highly-anticipated event happening at Portland’s North Warehouse on October 26.

An innovative cannabis brand in the heart of Portland’s famous “Green Mile,” Pure Green was founded in 2013 by Matt and Meghan Walstatter, who started the company not just to deliver quality goods and superior customer service, but also as a way to help the population at large through community development and social justice projects.

Barely a year into its operation, Pure Green participated in the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland’s Medical Marijuana Symposium and helped raise funds to fight breast cancer at the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Through their company, the Walstatters also advocated in favor of Oregon’s Measure 21, as well as access to banking for cannabis businesses.

Additionally, Pure Green helped organize the Pure Green Lantern Launch to fund research for ALS, the same year it became Clean Green Certified. The dispensary has also been highly active with the Oregon Cannabis Association and has championed causes from female empowerment and water protection to the rebuilding of California-based businesses following the devastating wildfires two years ago.

Pure Green Plays Big Role in High Times’ Cannabis Cup Oregon

So, what exactly is Pure Green’s role in Cannabis Cup Oregon? Essentially, it’s the official gatekeeper for the products being entered into the competition, managing the intake of all the contest’s entries and distributing them to local judges, who will ultimately be scoring each product from flower to concentrates and from edibles to topicals to determine who is deserving of the coveted High Times Cannabis Cup.

“Pure Green is a pillar of Oregon’s cannabis community, and we look forward to working with them as we host our first-ever Cannabis Cup in Oregon,” said Kraig Fox, CEO of High Times, in a press release. “What makes the Cannabis Cup so unique is our ability to connect consumers with the distinctive products and flavors of local communities. We can’t wait for Portland’s cannabis enthusiasts to experience the Cannabis Cup.”

Meghan Walstatter, founder of Pure Green said, “For decades, High Times has been a strong advocate on behalf of the cannabis community. We are thrilled to partner with such a well-known, global brand as they bring the Cannabis Cup to Portland. This event will contribute to Oregon’s cannabis movement and allows us to share our leading flowers, concentrates, extracts, edibles and topicals with local cannabis enthusiasts.”

Originally founded in 1988 in Amsterdam, the High Times Cannabis Cup is the world’s premier cannabis festival. The Oregon iteration focuses mostly on contests between cannabis brands and farms, and features a one-day awards show honoring Oregon’s cannabis businesses. The debut edition of the Cannabis Cup Oregon is expected to attract thousands of people in celebration of Oregon’s legal cannabis community.
Additional details on the entertainment and musical line-ups will be released over the coming weeks. Information on the event, tickets, and sponsorship opportunities are available here.
