Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman says cannabis has helped reduce his fibromyalgia pain, and as such, he’s been an outspoken supporter of full legalization of MMJ and recreational weed.
Though the renowned actor has been familiar to millions of fans of movies and TV for years, he’s now becoming familiar in the marijuana community.
Freeman has said that he supports the legalization of weed for a number of reasons.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, Freeman talked about why he thinks it should be easily accessible to everyone everywhere.
“They used to say, ‘You smoke that stuff, boy, you get hooked!'” Morgan said. “My first wife got me into it many years ago. How do I take it? However it comes! I’ll eat it, drink it, smoke it, snort it! This movement is really a long time coming, and it’s getting legs—longer legs.”
However, he has no use for alcohol.
“Now, the thrust is understanding that alcohol has no real medicinal use,” Morgan continued. “Maybe if you have one drink it’ll quiet you down, but two or three and you’re fucked.”
Following a serious car accident that nearly killed him eight years ago in Mississippi, Freeman shattered various bones including his shoulder, arm and elbow. Despite many long surgeries to repair the nerves, he still has not regained full use of his left hand.
He developed fibromyalgia pain in the arm that was crushed in the accident, and to cope with the pain, the 80-year-old Freeman started using weed.
Common treatments for fibromyalgia are anti-inflammatory medications, opioid pain medications and steroids. A 2011 study that focused on CBD treatment for fibromyalgia produced very promising results for future uses in treatment.
“The only thing that offers any relief is marijuana.” Morgan said. “They’re talking about kids who have grand mal seizures, and they’ve discovered that marijuana eases that down to where these children can have a life. That right there, to me, says, ‘Legalize it across the board!’”
We couldn’t agree more.
