US Sen. Elizabeth Warren Is ‘Open’ To Legalizing Recreational Marijuana

U.S. senator and democratic darling Elizabeth Warren has changed her stance on marijuana legalization.

According to Boston.com, she told Joshua Miller of The Boston Globe on Wednesday that she is now open to ballot questions seeking to legalize pot.

“You were opposed to legalization in 2012. As a Massachusetts voter, what’s your position today?” Miller asked Warren.

“I’m open to it,” she replied. “I think we’ve learned more. A couple of states have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Frankly, I think we ought to be learning what we can from those states.”

Warren also said that she is a proponent of marijuana research and has been “pushing the federal government” to step up its game.

This week, the Massachusetts attorney general ruled in favor of a proposed ballot question calling for the legalization of recreational pot. Sponsors of the initiative need to gather nearly 65,000 signatures by November 28 to secure a spot on the 2016 ballot.
