In a witty speech at the final White House Correspondents dinner of his presidency, President Barack Obama slipped in a weed joke that had the audience cheering and laughing.
Referencing his rising approval ratings on his way out of the office, Obama said, “The last time I was this high, I was trying to decide on my major.” [Hear it at 8:55]
Just before this quip, Obama had joked that “The prospect of leaving the White House is a mixed bag. You might have heard that someone jumped the White House fence last week, but I have to give Secret Service credit — they found Michelle, brought her back, she’s safe back at home now. It’s only nine more months, baby. Settle down.
And yet, somehow, despite all this, despite the churn, in my final year, my approval ratings keep going up.”
Obama has not been shy about his marijuana use, unlike former president Bill “I didn’t inhale” Clinton and other former leaders who might have admitted to trying the drug, but stopped short of saying they enjoyed it, let alone made a habit of it.
